This three-part series focusses on the female portrait, and what a likeness actually is.
Paying close attention to the eyes, i wanted to capture how each woman sees herself through building a close connection with the sitters and altering/manipulating the layers of paint depending on how they thought each feature should look.
This was an important lesson for me as a realist painter to be reminded that what i create is an illusion. I am showing the world what i see rather than the majority.
This questioning can be applied to all aspects of society - holding our gaze and perceptions accountable.
