This is my current work.
I am in the process of completing the third and final instalment of what i like to think of as a neo-altar-piece.
This looks closely at the role of the woman as fetish object within today's society, and actually trying to convey the experience of being this said object.
I've wanted to monumentalise and share this experience with an audience for a long time, as it is important to be aware of the small details behind every fetish reference.
The way i've gone about doing this is through the use of monastic iconography with gold leaf and gold droppings to elevate the status o an individual who is usually overlooked. Juxtaposing violent imagery with lavish ornamentality i'm hoping will be incredibly poignant and difficult to absorb but will also be beautiful. The female martyr is something we have all experienced and can all relate to.
This is ultimately a sensory experience that I want to convey, and I am looking to present these pieces in a darkened chapel, with rain sounds and projections overlaying the works - enveloping the audience and immersing them in ethereal melancholy.
This is my take on the modern woman.
